Down East Notes

Greg Kesich, Press Herald - Maine state senator from Presque Isle, Michael Willette, saw the day after the Bloody Sunday commemoration as a good time to pass along to his Facebook “friends” an Internet joke that claims that Obama is soft on the terrorists of the Islamic State group because they are members of his family. ... Robert Hanish, Waldo County Republican Committee chairman, got on the committee’s Facebook page [and suggested] that it’s laughable that a black congresswoman from Texas has a degree from an Ivy League institution.

Bangor Daily News -  Lawmakers and rail enthusiasts spent Tuesday pushing legislation that would make it easier to expand passenger train service from Portland to Lewiston-Auburn, but the Maine Department of Transportation has a bigger plan. The Maine DOT’s draft plan sets out goals for $125 million in passenger rail investments between 2014 and 2019 — mostly using federal funds — and a range of other projects proposed to boost freight rail service.

Bangor Police Department - Explosives detection specialist, Jovic was at the Police Department today. He was taking a break from his Bangor International Airport duties.
Jovic found no explosives but did seize a stale biscotti from the snowbank. Incredible. My kind of dog. If only he brought change for a couple of black coffees, I would sign up for the next opening on that squad
