Press Herald - Portland
officials have condemned an apartment building in East Bayside because
of frequent police visits, forcing the landlord to evict all of his
tenants until he fulfills his court-ordered obligations to tighten up
management of the property.
It’s the first time the city has
taken such an extreme measure to get a landlord to address issues under
its disorderly houses ordinance – a designation that’s given to a
building based on the number of police visits in a 30-day period.
Pine
Tree Legal Assistance, a nonprofit that provides free legal services to
low-income people, received a temporary restraining order against the
city to prevent the evictions of three tenants until a court hearing
next month.
