Maine legislator links Obama to ISIS

Politico - A Maine state senator apologized after facing criticism for sharing a post suggesting that President Barack Obama has family members in the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

On March 1, Michael Willette, a Republican from Presque Isle, shared a photo of the president originally posted by Conservative News Daily that featured a caption saying, “Why haven’t I done anything about ISIS? Because I’ll deal with them at the family reunion.” ISIS is an acronym commonly used for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Above the photograph, the Maine Republican offered his own commentary, suggesting this is not the first anti-Obama message he’s considered posting.

“I’ve been very good over the last year and a half about not posting things about Obama, but this one was too good to pass up,” Willette wrote. “I promise this will be the last one for some time.” Barack Obama is shown.

On Monday, Willette released a statement apologizing for sharing the post, saying “I apologize for posting this on Facebook. Like too many people these days, I fell into the trap of posting something first and then thinking later. It was an error in judgment.”

The statement declined to rebuke the message of the post.
